Mitzi's Collectibles

disclosure: i received a product in exchange for highlighting this business. all opinions are my own.

Mitzi’s Collectibles is an eclectic collection of antiques, vintage finds, and upcycled unique vintage items that are sure to be different.

Mitzi creates rosette corsages, spoon necklaces, and vintage wallpaper cuffs (seriously, so creative!)

I think the cuff especially is so unique and definitely has a 60s feel to it – It would look pretty amazing with the right outfit, it’s comfortable, and an interesting way to make a statement.

The corsages are pretty big to wear as a corsage (but I’m sure lots of people like them for that), but they’d also make nice decorations to clip to anything…in my mind, I’m seeing them clipped to an old chippy bench or sign – I guess whatever your imagination can think of!

And finally, a spoon into a necklace?  With flowers/baubles on the spoon?  This is definitely not your average necklace!

Mitzi would love to give you the prizes I just described (what’s in the picture above)!

Pretty Velvet Stardust Review and Giveaway

Pretty Velvet Stardust is a great new Etsy shop.  Lauren, the shop owner, is a sweet lady and I asked her to share a little bit about herself/her shop:

“I’ve really always loved makeup, because -besides it being really fun- I saw it as an art form. Our faces are a canvas for self-expression and an outlet for our personality to shine through. Just like our facial expressions display our emotions, I think our makeup can be an artistic medium to display a lot of who we are. Also… it makes us feel pretty!

I started making cosmetics because I wanted to not only give women a quality product that was made with a lot of love, but I wanted them to feel beautiful! I wanted to give them the tools to create their masterpiece on their ever-precious canvas. My greatest hope for my line is that I just spread a little happy. :)”

I was sent 2 palettes to review:

I love these little palettes – they are small and slim, they have a magnetic closure, a mirror, and they are a really good price for 4 eyeshadows.  Plus they are natural!  I apply my eye shadow quite often with my fingers, and the feel of these wasn’t as soft or silky as some I use.  Also the colors seemed not as vibrant.  BUT when I used a brush the color was great, and now I love them.  Both of these looks – I am only using the Pretty Velvet Stardust palettes, no other colors (except of course for brown mascara).

Guess what?  Lauren wants one of you to experience her mineral makeup!  One of you will win a completely custom palette of 4 colors!  So check out her shop and figure out what colors you’d choose!

Project Twenty Thirty-Five

Project Twenty Thirty-Five

Nichole has such a cute shop!  Her rings are so basic and so simple, yet so unique and personalized, which I think makes them super special.  She made me a ring to review and she has part of one of my favorite verses on it (Zephaniah 3:17 – “The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you.  He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”) I was wondering a bit about the quality – would the print rub off easily or just smudge?  I figured it would be best to not get it wet, but I washed my hands a few times forgetting to take it off, and it looks just as good as when it arrived.  She offers 3 finishes – clear, white, and frosted, as well as 8 font choices.  I got the frosted and font 5.  As far as sizing, I think it’s pretty much correct. (If anything, just a tad big – I usually wear a size 6 on the ring finger of my left hand, but this size 6 was too big for that finger – but it fits my middle finger of my left hand or ring finger of right hand perfectly, so pretty close)

(my mysterious red blotch on my hand…have no clue how I got it, but doesn’t itch or hurt at all, so hopefully it’ll just go away as mysteriously as it came)

I asked Nichole if she would mind letting you all know a little bit more about her shop and the meaning of its name:

Project Twenty Thirty-Five is named after one of my favorite bible verses, Acts 20:35. This verse quotes Jesus when he said “It is is more blessed to give than to receive.” The values of Project Twenty Thirty-Five are based off of that teaching. All profit is given to charitable organizations or individuals in need.
Making jewelry has been a hobby of mine for as long as I can remember. Instead of having a lemonade stand when I was younger, I had a “jewelry stand.”  When I was thinking about opening up Project Twenty Thirty-Five, I wanted it to be more than just a small business. I believe that God gives his children talent so that they can use that talent to glorify him. My talent is making jewelry, so donating all the profit from the business made perfect sense to me. In fact, doing this has made me much more passionate about the business and feels so much more rewarding than keeping the money.
I run Project Twenty Thirty-Five from my house, and currently I’m the only one who makes the orders. I’m also a sophomore in college and getting a degree in my other passion, Veterinary Medicine.

Isn’t that awesome??  Besides the shrinky dink rings, she also sells other rings as well as bracelets and hair clips.  Something else awesome is that she offered to give one of you a set of 2 rings!!!

The giveaway extravaganza is not over – not even close so don’t worry. But I thought I’d take a minute real quick to share a recipe since it’s been a while.

I love chickpeas and am always trying to come up with a new recipe or way to eat them.. you can roast them, grind the dried beans into a flour to bake with, you can mash them into hummus, you can add them to salads, you can mash them up and add them into cookies … just lots of ways to use beans.

The veggies were cut up ahead of time, so it took no time at all to whip this together, and I just think all the flavors and textures work really well.

Colorful Chickpea Salsa

1 Can of drained and rinsed chickpeas

1 tomato, diced

1 C total of finely diced peppers/celery/onion (I had yellow and red peppers, celery, and sweet onions), or as much/little as you want

For the dressing, mix together:

2 T Saucy Mama’s Lemon Tarragon mustard (it’s amazing! full review of this company shortly)

2 T honey

2 tsp Sailor’s Swagger Pineapple hot sauce

3 T apple cider vinegar

2 T water or oil

spices (a few good shakes of each): Savory, Black Pepper, Sea Salt, Sage, Parsley, Thyme, and Cumin

Mix the dressing ingredients together and pour over veggies/beans.  Allow to chill if desired.   This coul be a side dish (would serve about 4) or a main dish (serve about 2)

I also wanted to let you know about a little sale happening over at my shop!  It’s back-to-school time, but I want everyone to do some back-to-school shopping not just students (I’ve been out of school for quite a number of years now, I’m not a teacher…and yet something about the back-to-school flyers/commercials/sales just makes me want to get a binder, paper, and pens and pretend like I’m in 4th grade again).  So I’m offering 5% off with the code BACK2SCHL through Sept. 10th.

I’ve already come up with some Christmas/winter scents and by the middle of next month should have the new Fall scents listed, so that’s a bit exciting for me.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!  I’ll be back on Monday for yet another giveaway and to annonce the winner of the Vegan Conscious Box! (one day left to enter)
