New Year, New You…?

Well, Christmas and New Years came and went… and here we are halfway through January.  I’m not sure how that happened, but time never stands still, especially not when we want it to.  Do you have resolutions, goals, whatever you want to call them?  I picked out a word for myself to try to focus on this year – – – it is the word “brave”.  More on that later because there’s so much I want to flesh out and really dig deeper on that, but suffice it to say that encompasses an awful lot of things in my life..being brave or letting fear rule.  I’m thinking (if I can get into an actual blog schedule) that Sunday will be my “deep thought” days here on the blog.  But today is Friday, which means…

Fitness Friday is back!

As much as I wish I were, I am a) not an avid exerciser – as in someone who vigorously exercises for at least an hour a day or hits the gym for 60 minutes a night.  I’m just not.  I do enjoy exercise (on my terms, haha); and b) the “on my terms” is because I am not in shape…I know I’m not in shape, and yes, I should get in shape – i.e. not feel like I’ll fall over and die if I have to run for more than a few minutes at a time.  But exercise in general is so healthy.  So if you’re a die-hard marathoner or just a casual walker, a focused yoga-er or just like simple ballet or stretches (which can actually be really intense) – just find whatever exercise is something that you enjoy doing – something that you can do each day and not tire of it.

I love to try new programs and exercise DVDs (especially if they are on the more balletic/pilates/stretching vein), but sometimes just going back to your exercise first love is important too.  So I pulled out and dusted off my Oxycise tapes (yes, tapes, lol, though I do have one of their DVDs) and have begun a routine of doing 2 Oxycise sessions per day.  My real goal is to at least do 1 a day so I get back in that habit, but setting the bar high means when I “fail” by only getting in 1 session, I still meet my true goal.  (haha, yes, there must be some weird psychology to this, but it works much better for me than setting the goal at 1, and I don’t get bent out of shape at all if I do only get in 1 instead of 2).  So since I started this routine on January 5th, I’ve only missed 1 day where I didn’t do any, and only a handful of days where I just got in 1, so I’d say I’m doing pretty good!  I have Level 1 (but I let someone borrow it, and can’t remember who, so I don’t currently have it), Level 2 (gets played the most), Level 4, Buns & Thighs I, and Upper Body.    What is Oxycise you say?   Weeeellllll….. I’ll warn you – it’s not *quite as strange as Prancersize or Bodyflex – although it does focus on a breathing technique while flexing various muscles, so I guess it’s similar in that way to BodyFlex, but it’s less scary looking.   But still, I’ll freely admit, if someone saw you exercising, they’d more than likely say, “What in the world are you doing??”.  But anyways, if you’re up to trying new things (well, it’s not new, so I guess new-to-you things, give it a try – measure yourself first and then do it for a week or so and see what your results are like).

Here are my results so far:

I measure bust, both right and left upper arm, ribs, waist (natural waist), abs (bellybutton), hips (largest part), both right and left upper thigh, both right and left lower thigh, and both right and left calf.  From January 5th – January 11th, I lost 2.2 lbs, but more importantly, 10.25″!!  I’m super happy with that!  I’ve decided to measure on Monday mornings and Friday mornings (I forgot to measure this morning) because sometimes it’s easy for me to not exercise at all over the weekend, and this will keep me exercising knowing I’ll be measuring again come Monday morning.

I like that I can just wear what I want and be comfortable to exercise in my home and not need to go to a gym (of course, there’s nothing wrong with the gym and for many that’s preferred).

(Comfy athletic Kushyfoot socks)

Along with the consistent exercise, I’ve been taking my Plexus products (the TriPlex and Ease) and drinking about 80 oz of water a day.

Happy Friday!

Have you started anything new exercise wise for 2016?

Do you Black Friday?

Are you a get-up-before-dawn Black Friday shopper?  I’ll admit I am not.  A few years ago, though, I experienced the madness, the craziness, and the adrenaline of others who have lost their sanity in hopes of a great deal.  I went with a few friends.  We left around 2 o’clock in the morning if memory serves me, and I was dumbfounded that people really do get up at that hour to shop!  Anyways, the time spent with my friends was enjoyable, although I can’t say I’d jump to do it again.  Black Friday shopping is fun, but it really does bring out the worst in some people…that is the part I hated.  But we had fun and had the right attitude, and that made it a little easier to endure the grumblers, the nudgers, and the I-will-run-over-you-if-you-get-in-my-way people.  🙂

So if you want to escape the long lines and want to do some online shopping, I have a few specials/deals to share:

Before doing any online shopping, I *always* check to see if the store is on Ebates.  It’s super easy, free, and who doesn’t want some cash back that can be combined with any other coupons or deals you find?  Yes, please!  [Right now, Old Navy is 10% back, JCPenny 10%, Macys 10%, Kohls 8%, and a bunch more].

Next are a few particular deals:

Plexus is having free shipping + 10% off all orders (customer and welcome packs!!) through Sunday night!  This is really a huge sale, and of course they still have their 60-day no-questions-asked money-back guarantee.  If I had to pick one thing that has most changed my life in the past year, it would, without any hesitation, be Plexus.  I have never been this pain free since prior to my back injury or whatever happened to make it hurt so horribly, over 8 years ago.  Other things have taken some of the edge off the pain or worked temporarily, but it’s been 7 and a half months of at least 80% pain free days, and I haven’t even felt the need to go to the chiropractor (I do believe in chiropractors and should probably go in just to make sure everything is in alignment, but prior to Plexus, I HAD to go anywhere from once a month up to 3 times a week, and that was just to be in that not feeling normal, but at least I can function zone.  It’s helping with other areas of my health as well – I’m slowly but surely losing inches, fitting into clothes I couldn’t for quite a long time.  I only had 1 day this whole spring and summer (I don’t usually have fall allergies, but have spring/summer allergies) that I noticed my allergies acting up,… just 1 day!!  And my digestion is as good as it’s ever been.  I could go on and on, but I’ll stop for now.  🙂  (Oh, and I didn’t start out with Plexus for the business side of it – I purely was hoping the products would work for me.  They have, and I’m now also really loving that all of my products are now completely paid for each month, and I get to help others improve their health and also make some side money or life-changing money from it).

100% Pure is having a couple specials I want to share as well: $30 off first-time purchase of $60 or more.  This ends Dec.11, and is a pretty awesome deal!  Their body cream is super luxurious (and smells wonderful), and with this deal, you can get them for around $8 each!  Free shipping and free returns as well!  I also love their makeup palettes. They are also having Black Friday Mystery bags – one for nails, makeup, and hair/body, each at 40%-60% off!

Next up are two exercise/fitness deals:

Oxycise – all their DVDs are 35% off, and all their downloads are 50% off!  This has remained at the top of my exercise list for many years and is something I always go back to no matter what other programs I try out.

Bellicon – They are having a great sale right now on all their models (I personally have, and love, the 44″ model).  I love that the legs can fold and so it can be stored out of the way if needed (though it’s also really fun looking, so you’ll probably keep it out as much as possible).  Also, right now, they are giving Bellicon owners a free year of their online be360 program – I just checked it out this morning, and it looks really great.

I’ll be back to share some more of my favorites for Cyber Monday!

*Some links may be affiliate links; this simply means I make a small percentage if an order is placed.  Your price is still the same, and this simply helps me run this blog.

Are you an in-store black Friday shopper, online, or could care less?

Short Weekly Goals

Woops, how does a week+ go by so stinkin’ fast?  Well, I don’t have much time to write today, but just wanted to quickly jot down a recap of last weeks’ goals and write out this weeks’ goals (even though it’s Tuesday…better late than never, right?)

To recap, this was what I wrote last Sunday for my goals for the week and what I *actually* did in the purple:

Eat as clean as possible; keep a close eye on sugars and hidden sugars; eat plenty of vegetables

I need to do better about writing down what I eat on paper.  A few friends of mine on FB actually hold each other accountable for our daily eats so I type them up, but I need to write it down so I can see it in front of me.  Overall, not bad, not incredibly great.  I did eat more veggies, though.

Take my Plexus products each day; drink a min. of 85 oz of water each day

I took my supplements each day, but I missed on my water a few days – also need to write this down in a planner so I see it all in one spot.

Exercise/Healthy Movement:

Do Oxycise x7; Ballet Beautiful arms x2, Ballet Beautiful legs x2; T-Tapp x3; Cellerciser/Bellicon 5 min x6

I feel I did good on the exercise front, not quite doing exactly what I set out to (did Oxycise x3 instead of x7, Bellicon x3 instead of x6, no T-Tapp, but Ballet Beautiful arms x5 instead of x2, Ballet Beautiful legs x2, and Classical Stretch x1).

M: Oxycise, Bellicon

T: Oxycise, Bellicon, Ballet Beautiful arms

W: Classical Stretch

Th: Bellicon, Ballet Beautiful arms, Ballet Beautiful legs

F: Ballet Beautiful arms

S: Ballet Beautiful arms

Su: Oxycise, Ballet Beautiful arms, Ballet Beautiful legs

Goals for This Week:

Continue to focus on veggies and not having sugar

I ran out of my Plexus Slim, so I will have a few days without it, but otherwise, keep taking my supplements and at least 85 oz of water a day.

Oxycise x7, Ballet Beautiful arms/legs or combination x4, Cellercise/Bellicon x3, and I also want to get out my chi machine and hot house and relax each evening for a few minutes doing them.

I know this is a boring post – my week was busy last week, and I’m swamped with work right now.  Having a yard sale on Saturday, so will be getting ready for that this week.

Have any plans for this week or weekend?

How did you do on your own weekly goals from this past week?

Who doesn’t love a good old-fashioned scavenger hunt?  I wouldn’t call this one necessarily old-fashioned, since it uses social media (Twitter) to send out its clues, but it sounds super fun nonetheless!  Puma’s new Trinomic XT1s are coming out, and to make it a grand coming out, JDSports and Puma have teamed up to let you win some great shoes!

Weekend wrapup – with a Joe Browns Fall wrap!

I told you a little bit ago that I would have an item from the Joe Browns Fall line to review, and here it is:  The Sensational Chiffon Trim Top.  It has all those details that Joe Browns is known for – love the variety of antique-looking buttons, the soft fabric, the chiffon trim, the pretty softened navy color, the chiffon ruching at the neckline and the sleeves.  It is quite a bit longer on me than on the model of course, but I still love it.  The fit is also nice, fitted, but still comfortable (I got a size UK10/US6 for reference).  If I were to try to find a negative, it would just be that it is a little bit delicate – the buttons specifically you’ll just have to be careful with.  But this is just so pretty, I plan to hand wash it and be gentle with the buttons.  All the positives waaaay out number just that one minor negative.

joe browns

Details: grey t-shirt- LOFT; topper – c/o Joe Browns; jeans – Eddie Bauer via 10dollarmall; boots Beartrap Sheridan.  {I got these boots last year, and love them – I have thick calves and most boots don’t zip up quite, but these are wider calves and so they work.  They aren’t leather or anything, and they’re starting to really show wear, so not sure how long they will still last, but while they do I love them.

Here’s an idea of an outfit using more of Joe Browns Fall line – I love blue/gray/purple combination!

This is just an aside, but I am no photographer… sometimes, when browsing blogs, especially ones that are fashion oriented, it can start to make you feel like you *need* to take outdoor professional photos.  Well, first of all, I love fashion and do quite a bit of fashion-themed posts, but that’s not all my blog is about.  Second, and most importantly, I just don’t have the ….everything you’d need to take professional-quality photos – my neighbors would think I’m nutso if I started taking photos in the yard, and I don’t have a photographer, so most of my photos are either selfies or on self-timer.  I figure this is just real life, ya know?  Usually, the best place in my house is in the bathroom – it gets good natural light, and so my grey shower curtain background will have to do as my “set”.  So never feel less than if what you do doesn’t seem to measure up to what others do…. we are all unique.  If everyone always did the exact same thing, what’s so special about that?  Just be yourself and have fun with it!

Since it’s officially fall now, scarves are making a big comeback (Truthfully, I wear scarves all year round basically, but fall is when you get to pull out the chunkier thicker warmer scarves.).  I had a few scarves that have hung on my scarf rack, lonely and longing to be worn, but they just seemed too bulky and overwhelming on me, and so they just hung unworn.  I don’t have a sewing machine, so I put off trying to do anything about it…until yesterday morning, when I decided to have at it with a pair of scissors.  I’m going to get some no fray seam glue, but it’s really not fraying much – I cut 3 in half the long wise, and now have 3 great scarves to wear again! (I can’t even draw a straight line, much less cut one, so I was really worried I would ruin them, but when you have it on, you don’t notice any slight crookedness). It’s amazing that just by reducing some of the bulk by cutting them in half really made me love the look of them so much more!   Soooo…take away?  If you have unworn scarves that you like, but for some reason just keep passing by, consider cutting them in half to see if the proportion of the scarf fits better!

And finally, in random weekend wrapup news, I’ve begun doing Bar Method again – specifically the legwork section from the Advanced Dancers Body DVD.  It is so hard and so great at the same time.  I’m going to be doing it every day to every-other day through November… or that’s the plan at least.  It’s pretty short, so I think I’ll be good at keeping it up.  Also doing Oxycise at least once a day (really trying for 2-3 times a day, though) as well.

– Anything fun planned this weekend?

-What item from the Joe Browns Fall line would you most love to wear?

-Do you enjoy wearing scarves, and have you ever had to alter them?

-And finally, what exercise program are you currently working on?

*As part of being a fashion blogger for Joe Browns, I was sent product in exchange for my honest review.
